Progressed Chart Calculator
See how your birth chart has unfolded. Secondary progressions move each planet one day for every year of life, so your progressed Sun, Moon and angles describe the inner seasons you are moving through. Enter your birth details and a date to see where you stand.
What a Progressed Chart Shows
Your birth chart is a picture of one moment. A progressed chart lets that picture move. In secondary progressions, the method most astrologers use, the sky on the day after you were born describes your first year of life, the sky on the second day your second year, and so on. The progressed planets move slowly, so they describe gradual inner development: the way a temperament matures, the emotional seasons of a life and the turning points that are recognized more often in hindsight than in the moment.
How This Calculator Works
- A day for a year. Your age on the chosen date, in tropical years of 365.2422 days, is added to your birth moment as days. The planets at that moment are your progressed positions.
- Angles by solar arc. The progressed Midheaven moves as far as the progressed Sun has moved since birth, and the progressed Ascendant is the one that rises with it at your birthplace. This is the usual default in astrology software.
- A whole life of progressed Moon signs. The calculator follows the progressed Moon for 100 years and lists every sign it enters, with dates and ages.
- The same ephemeris as every Selfgazer chart, held to the Swiss Ephemeris within half an arcminute, with your birthplace's historical time zone rules.
The Progressed Moon Through the Signs
The progressed Moon spends about two and a half years in each sign and returns to its birth position about every 27 years. Its sign describes the emotional climate of a chapter of life: what feels important, what needs care.
Progressed Moon in Aries
Feelings move quickly and want an outlet. The emotional climate favors beginnings, plain honesty about what you want and impatience with what has gone stale. What are you ready to start for yourself?
Progressed Moon in Taurus
Feelings settle and look for steadiness: the body, the home, money, things you can touch. The period asks for patience and for building something that lasts. What would make your life feel solid from the inside?
Progressed Moon in Gemini
Curiosity rises. The mind wants conversation, reading and movement, and the emotional life runs through words. What do you want to understand, and who do you want to talk with?

Progressed Moon in Sagittarius
The heart wants room: travel, study, belief and a wider horizon. Meaning matters more than comfort. What do you believe now that you did not believe a few years ago?
Progressed Moon in Capricorn

Progressed Moon in Aquarius
Feelings step back to gain perspective: friendship, community, independence and the future. What would freedom look like in your emotional life?
Progressed Moon in Pisces
Boundaries soften. The climate is sensitive, imaginative and inward, the close of a cycle of about 27 years before the progressed Moon returns to Aries. What needs rest, forgiveness or completion?
The Progressed Lunation Cycle
The progressed Moon overtakes the progressed Sun about every 30 years, at a progressed New Moon. Between one and the next it passes through eight phases of three and a half to four years each, a rhythm many astrologers read as the larger arc of a life.
- New Moon. A new cycle of about thirty years begins. It is a seed time, when a direction is felt before it can be named.
- Crescent. The new direction meets the pull of old habits. Effort and trust carry it forward.
- First Quarter. A time of decisions and building, when the young direction has to take shape in the world.
- Gibbous. A time of refinement: adjusting what has been built and asking what it is for.
- Full Moon. Culmination and clarity. What was seeded about fifteen years ago comes into full view, along with what it means.
- Disseminating. A time of sharing what has been learned, when understanding becomes something you can give.
- Last Quarter. A time of reorientation: loosening old structures and questioning what no longer fits.
- Balsamic. The cycle is closing. It is a time of release and quiet preparation, while the seed of the next cycle forms.
Progressed Chart Questions
What Is a Progressed Chart?
A progressed chart shows how your birth chart has unfolded over time. In secondary progressions, the most widely used method, each day after your birth stands for one year of your life. The planets' positions 36 days after you were born describe your inner development at age 36.
How Are Secondary Progressions Calculated?
Count your age in years, including the fraction of the current year, and move forward that many days from your birth moment. The positions of the planets at that moment are your progressed positions. This calculator measures years in tropical years of 365.2422 days and moves the Midheaven by solar arc, the distance the progressed Sun has travelled since birth.
Why Is the Progressed Moon So Important?
It is the fastest-moving progressed body. It travels about one degree a month and changes sign roughly every two and a half years, completing the zodiac in about 27 years. Its sign describes the emotional climate of a period of life, so its changes are easy to feel and to look back on.
How Often Does the Progressed Sun Change Sign?
About once every 30 years, since the progressed Sun moves close to one degree a year. Most people see their progressed Sun change sign two or three times in a lifetime. Each change marks a gradual shift in how identity is expressed, while the birth Sun sign stays the foundation.
Do I Need My Birth Time?
For the progressed Ascendant and Midheaven, yes, together with your birth place. The progressed Sun and planets are close to right without it. The progressed Moon is more sensitive: a birth time off by 12 hours moves it about six degrees, which shifts its sign changes by about six months.
What Is the Difference Between Progressions and Transits?
Transits are the planets in the sky today touching your birth chart, an outside influence that comes and goes. Progressions are your birth chart itself slowly unfolding, a measure of inner development. Astrologers often read the two together.
What Is the Progressed Lunar Phase?
It is the angle between the progressed Sun and Moon. The progressed Moon catches up with the progressed Sun about every 30 years, making a progressed New Moon, and the cycle runs through eight phases of roughly three and a half to four years each. Many astrologers read it as the larger rhythm of a life.
